Hit 500 tower crane picks on the Calgary job and it snuck up on me
Was logging my lifts last Friday on the downtown Calgary high rise and noticed I crossed 500 picks on this one tower crane. Sounds like a lot but spread over 7 months it's just another day on the swing. Thing is I remember my first 100 like it was yesterday, sweaty palms and all, and now it's muscle memory mostly. Any of you keep a lift count going, or am I the only one nerdy enough to track it?
Keeping a lift count seems like extra work for no real reason. Nobody is asking for that number at the end of the day and the crane does not care how many times you swung it. Seven months on one machine and 500 picks just means you showed up and did your job, same as the next guy on the swing. Counting it does not make you safer or faster, it just gives you something to brag about online. If you want to track something, track the near misses or the days you almost dropped a load, that stuff might actually teach you something. The number itself does not mean much when every pick is a different weight, a different spot, and a different set of eyes on the ground.
