Just realized I've logged over 5,000 hours on my current tower crane

It hit me when I was updating my logbook yesterday, and that's just on this one site in Denver. Has anyone else been surprised by a number like that on a single project?

Huh, that's actually a good point Elizabeth. I used to think it was all the same, seat time versus runtime, but now I see how that could add up way different. Especially on a big tower crane where they might leave it running during breaks or lunch to keep the hydraulics warm, especially in colder weather. That kind of idle time can really throw your numbers off compared to what you're actually sitting in the cab.

Whoa, that's a serious chunk of time. Just a heads up, for crane operators, logbooks usually track seat time, not crane runtime. Those hours can be really different if the crane's been sitting idle but powered on.

Yeah, that's a good point about seat time vs runtime. I mean, when I had to track mine, I just made sure my daily log matched the crane's hour meter reading at the start and end of my shift. Idk, maybe it's just me but writing down both helped avoid any confusion later.
