Just realized my old Grove from 1987 has a longer service life than most modern cranes I run today

Buddy had a 1987 model running strong til 2019.

Hold on, I gotta push back a little on that. A '87 is basically an antique at that point, and yeah they were built tough, but that thing was probably held together with duct tape and prayers by 2019. Cars from that era had carburetors and no crumple zones, so while it's cool it lasted, you were also driving a deathtrap with the safety of a tin can. I'm not saying they don't last, I'm just saying that '87 to 2019 is an outlier, not the norm for most people's daily drivers.

You said "outlier not the norm" but I've seen plenty of those old Groves still running strong. That 87 model was built simple just like the cars you mentioned. Less computer crap to go wrong means fewer headaches down the road.
