My old habit of eyeballing the boom angle on a 50-tonner in Dallas was costing me minutes every lift

I was setting a big HVAC unit on a roof last Tuesday, and my rigger, Carlos, kept asking for tiny adjustments after I thought I was in position. He finally said, 'Man, just check the angle indicator. It's right there.' I'd been ignoring that digital readout for years, thinking I could judge it by sight. Started using it, and my next three picks were dead-on first try. How many other little things like that are we all just skipping over?

My dad's a mechanic and he did the same thing with his torque wrench for a decade, just going by feel. He'd get so mad when a bolt backed out. christophers27 is right, it's wild what we get used to ignoring.
