Remember when we used to eyeball the chart for every lift?

I was on a job in Tacoma last month setting a 12-ton generator on a tight pad. The old head who trained me always said to add 10% to the chart weight for rigging, so I did. The crane started to tip. Turns out the new charts from the 2023 manual already have that safety factor built in, so I was double counting. Learned to always check which version of the load chart you're using. Anyone else run into this with the newer gear?

My old foreman in Spokane still adds 15% to every chart, new or old. Sometimes that extra margin is what keeps you out of trouble when the ground is soft.

Wait, isn't that just a safety factor?

Guess that's why they call it the tipping point.
