Rode along on a tower crane in Seattle, never noticed the wind patterns up there

My cousin runs a tower crane on a high rise near Pike Place and let me ride up with him last Friday. On the way down he pointed out how the buildings funnel gusts between them way harder than anything we feel on the ground rigs. Do you guys with tower time watch wind direction before every pick, or is it more about feel once you're up there?
