Saw a crew in Phoenix swap from nylon to polyester slings last month
They were lifting a big HVAC unit onto a roof, same job they did last year. The foreman said the new slings had way less stretch, made the load feel more solid. Anyone know if the extra cost is worth it for general steel work?

vera503 is right about the zero stretch being a factor, but nobody's talking about the heat. Phoenix sun on black polyester slings gets them way hotter than nylon. That heat can weaken them over time if you're not checking the load charts for the temp rating.

Wait, they did that same roof lift again? That job must be cursed or something. Polyester's no joke though, zero stretch would freak me out a bit on a big swing.

Wait, doesn't nylon actually have a lower melting point than polyester in direct heat?
