That $300 load cell upgrade I should have skipped last fall
Bought a fancy wireless load cell to replace my trusty shackle scale for a job in Portland, and the batteries died mid-lift on a 40,000 lb precast panel, costing me a half day and a rental fee. Anyone else stick with the old gear because the new stuff just isn't worth the headache?

…so the batteries died and that's the load cell's fault? I've had cell batteries go flat on me for a decade, same as any other tool. Sounds like you skipped the pre-lift check, not the fancy upgrade. My buddy runs a rigging outfit and he still uses a mechanical gauge for anything over 20k because he knows it never needs a charge. But honestly, a half day and one rental fee is a cheap lesson. I've lost more time to a frozen hydraulic fitting than that.
