The day the hydraulics froze near Calgary, best shift I ever had
Last February we had a -30 morning and the crane sat overnight on a high-rise job outside Calgary. The hydraulics were sluggish, lines stiff, and the foreman wanted to call it off. I pushed to do a slow warm up cycle and bleed the system for 20 minutes before lifting anything. By noon we were moving steel like it was summer. Everyone else thought I was wasting time but that patience saved us a full day of downtime. Has anyone else had a freezing day turn into a smooth one just by taking it slow at the start?

Bleed the lines for 20 minutes? Man, I can barely wait 20 minutes for my coffee to cool down, so you're basically a saint in my book. I'd have been the one cranking the lever and praying to whatever god handles frozen metal, probably ending up with a bent hook and a bruised ego.
