Tried to lift a pallet of drywall with a 25-ton crane in a tight Philly alley, and the whole load started spinning like a top because I forgot to check the tagline.

Has anyone else had a load get away from them in a weird spot, and what's your trick for keeping things steady when you're boxed in?

That spinning drywall proves @morgan915 is right, and it's the same with any plan that misses a simple backup step.

Saw a video where a guy used two taglines off the back corners of a load, each handled by a spotter. Basically creates a triangle for way more control in a tight space. Your single line just lets it pivot. That spinning drywall is a classic sign you needed that second point of contact. Hard lesson, but now you know. Always double-check your rigging before you lift.

Man, that whole spinning load thing reminds me of trying to get a couch up a narrow staircase. You think one person guiding it from the bottom is enough, but then it just wedges and turns sideways. Had to get a second buddy up top to pull from a different angle, same triangle idea. It's all about those contact points.
