Warning: I told my crew the anti two-block alarm was just noise, and a load of rebar almost proved me wrong
For 3 years on the tower cranes downtown I waved off the anti two-block alarm as a nuisance that went off for no reason. Last Tuesday I was booming out fast with a bundle of #6 rebar at 90 feet and the alarm started chirping, so I said over the radio it was the same old false trip. My rigger Jesse stopped me cold and pointed up at the block, the hook was maybe 2 feet from the sheave and I had half a second of travel left before it slammed. I sat in the cab for a minute after we landed it and admitted he was right, that alarm has saved my butt more than once and I was too proud to hear it. Now I want to know, does anybody else's setup false-trip so much that you stopped trusting it, and how did you fix it?
