Watching my brother-in-law rig a porch swing with clothesline gave me flashbacks to a failed pick last year.

Clothesline seems like a good idea until it stretches or snaps under load. That pick probably failed for a similar reason of using the wrong gear for the job. Some people just really trust cheap rope too much.

Totally agree about the wrong gear thing. People see a rope rated for 200 pounds and think it's fine for a 300 pound load if it's just for a minute. Physics doesn't care about your timeline. That cheap stuff also gets weak from sun and rain way faster than anyone checks. It's not just a snap, it's a whip back that can take out an eye.
