Why does nobody talk about using a transit level to check pile plumb?

I was setting piles for a bridge job outside Tulsa last month and kept fighting with a 4-way level trying to get them straight. A surveyor buddy handed me his transit and showed me how to sight down the length for a quick check, now I use it every time. Has anyone else tried this trick or do you still stick with the old bubble method?

Oh man, I had the exact same lightbulb moment on a job last year when a surveyor showed me that trick - it's a total game changer and I haven't touched my 4-way since. Your mileage may vary but trust me, once you go transit you never go back.

Wait, say that again - you haven't touched your 4-way since? That's insane to me, I've been loyal to my old level for years and can't imagine ditching it cold turkey like that. Guess I've been missing out on something big this whole time though.
