I choose character development over plot twists every time now
After reading three bestsellers in a row where the big twist made me stop caring about the people involved, I went back to a quieter novel about a fisherman in Maine and felt more invested in his daily choices than in any murder mystery. Does anyone else find themselves skipping ahead just to see what happens to the characters rather than finding out who the killer is?

That fisherman novel sounds way better than any twist.

Honestly @angela_carter you ever read a twist that was so bad it made you wish you were stuck on a boat with a fisherman instead? At least that novel sounds like it has some actual payoff instead of some nonsense ending that ruins everything. Ngl I'd take a slow story about bait and tackle over another lazy plot twist just for shock value.
