My grandmother's tale from the war has me stuck on how to frame it as a prompt

Last week, my grandmother shared a story from her youth during the war. It was so vivid and emotional that I immediately wanted to turn it into a writing prompt for our community. But I'm struggling to condense it without losing its essence. Any tips on how to capture such personal histories in a prompt format? I'd love to hear how others handle similar inspirations.

Just focus on the strongest feeling she described.

Oh man, that's a tough one. I always try to find the one tiny moment that holds the whole big feeling. Like, maybe she talked about sharing a single piece of chocolate, or the sound of a specific siren. Just grab that one concrete thing. Build the prompt around that small, real detail. Ask people to write about that object or sound, and the big emotions will come through on their own. It keeps it simple but powerful.

Was I wrong to ignore the emotion before seeing it frame the story perfectly?
