Started a writing prompt about a haunted laundromat and my character died in paragraph three by a sock monster... totally lost control of the story

Honestly, a sock monster is wild but I'm stuck on how you even got to that point in a laundromat setting. Ngl, I'm picturing this thing made of mismatched tube socks and dryer lint and I'm kind of scared now. Tbh, losing control of a story that fast is a skill in itself, like you went from "oh no the lights are flickering" to "a sock is choking me" in record time. Did you at least finish writing the scene to see how the monster operated? I feel like you owe it to yourself to see if it had a clothespin for a nose or something.

Wait, did you actually sit down and finish that scene? I'm curious if the sock monster ended up having like a single button eye or something ridiculous like that. Because a clothespin nose would be hilarious but also kind of terrifying if it's actually trying to strangle you. Did the story wrap up with the protagonist escaping or did the sock just keep coming back every time they turned around?
