Am I the only one who thinks the "customer is always right" rule is garbage?
I worked retail for 3 years at a mall in Tulsa and saw a guy return a 2 year old used lawnmower with no receipt, and my manager gave him cash back just to avoid a scene. That one $180 refund taught me that stores reward the loudest people and ignore the polite ones, so has anyone else watched a rule like that backfire?
There was a story on some news site about a lady who brought back a rotisserie chicken to Costco, like she ate the whole thing and tried to return the bones. And they took it back. Stores do this because they ran the numbers and decided a bad review or a scene costs more than the refund. So the policy is not about who is right, its about who is loud and who might make a fuss online. The quiet people who follow the rules get nothing. Meanwhile the guy screaming at the service desk gets a gift card just to go away.
