Appreciation post: That $75 Nordstrom return without a receipt blew my mind
I walked in to exchange a sweater my mom gave me with no tags or receipt and the lady just looked at it and handed me store credit no questions asked, has anyone else had a return so smooth it actually felt wrong?

The real wild part is how much that store credit affects their metrics. See, when you do a no-receipt return at Nordstrom, they actually track that against your profile if you have one. Too many of those and they can start denying returns. But the fact that they just hand it over without a fuss means they're betting you'll come back and spend more than $75 on something you actually want. It's a gamble that almost always pays off for them because you feel so good about the experience you'll probably buy something pricier next time. That $75 store credit is basically a trap wrapped in great customer service.

My buddy Carl once took back a pair of boots to Nordstrom that he'd worn for six months. The sole was basically peeling off and he just walked in with them in a plastic bag, no box or receipt. The lady at the counter gave him a full refund in cash on the spot, like $180. He said he felt like he'd just pulled off a heist and bought himself a steak dinner with the money that night.
