Found a trick for getting refunds from stubborn companies

My laptop charger died last week and Best Buy wouldn't take it back because it was 3 days past the return window. I called their customer service line and asked to speak to a supervisor directly instead of the first person who answered. The supervisor gave me a store credit no problem after I explained it was a manufacturing defect. Has anyone else gotten better results by just asking for a manager?

not me but my buddy had this exact thing happen with a samsung tv that died after like 2 weeks. he went straight to the store manager at walmart and the dude just swapped it out no receipt even. said something about "customer satisfaction override" or whatever. I think that supervisor thing works cus the first person you talk to has no power to bend rules but the manager can just do whatever they want.

I mean sure, that works if you catch the right manager on a good day, but I've seen the opposite side of that too. My uncle tried the same thing at Best Buy with a laptop that had a bad hard drive after a month, and the manager basically told him the receipt was the only thing that mattered. He ended up having to go through the manufacturer warranty which took like three weeks. So I wouldn't count on that customer satisfaction thing being a sure bet.
