Got chewed out by a barista in Minneapolis over a $4 latte, now I'm split on who was wrong
So I was at this small coffee shop near Hennepin Ave about 3 months back. I ordered a latte, and when it came out the milk was scalded, like burnt and bitter tasting. I asked politely if they could remake it. The barista sighed loud, grabbed the cup, and said in front of the whole line, "You know the beans are supposed to taste like that, right?" Then she remade it and slammed it on the counter.
Here's the thing. I get that food service is brutal and people order wrong all the time. But I also spent 8 years working counter jobs and never once talked to a paying customer like that. So half of me says I should have just drank the burnt thing and moved on. The other half says she was way out of line and I was right to say something.
What do you all think? If the drink is actually bad, do you speak up or just eat the $4 and leave? And for the folks who work behind a counter, was she justified or just having a rough shift?
