I used to just call companies and complain, now I put everything in writing first

I had a problem with my internet provider about 6 months ago where they overcharged me by $40. I called them and spent 45 minutes on the phone, and they said they'd fix it but then never did. Now I always send an email or use their chat feature first so I have a written record of what they promised. Has anyone else found that companies take things more seriously when it's in writing?

Disagree completely, written complaints just give them time to craft a perfect scripted brush-off.
