Lost $87 on a furniture warranty I never used
I bought a living room set from a local shop in Portland 3 years ago and they pushed a 5-year warranty for $87, which I paid for. When a leg broke last month they told me the warranty only covers stains and fabric tears, not structural damage. Has anyone else fallen for these limited furniture warranties?

Jumped in to say I got burned EXACTLY the same way with a mattress warranty. They sold me a 10 year plan for $120 and when the foam sagged after 2 years they said it only covers things like burns or spills. I was SO MAD because you basically have to ruin the furniture yourself to use it. @diana829 you're totally right they cover literally NOTHING useful. These warranties are just a way for stores to pocket extra cash and hope you forget you even bought one. I always say no now no matter how much they push it.

Read somewhere that stores actually bank on less than 10% of people ever using these warranties, so they're basically just free money for them. The mattress one is extra shady because normal wear and tear is literally what you're trying to protect against, but they word it so vague you don't realize until too late. Friend of mine had the same thing happen with a couch, paid for extra coverage and the cushion foam flattened out after a year. They told her it was "expected settling" or something ridiculous like that. Makes you wonder why they even offer these plans if they're gonna fight you on every single claim.
