My buddy who runs a food truck said he fired a guy for being rude to a customer who complained about a $12 sandwich, and it made me realize a good boss protects their team from bad apples, not the other way around.

He told me, 'A sour attitude is like a leak, it ruins everything around it if you don't fix it fast,' and that hit different because I've worked for bosses who would have just told the customer to get lost.

Bad bosses let that leak rot the whole team.

Devil's advocate here, but sometimes a little leak is what shakes the tree. If your crew jumps ship over one bad thing, maybe they were looking for an exit anyway. People act like every workplace needs to be a perfect bubble where nothing ever goes wrong. That's not the real world lol. A good boss can actually use a toxic person leaving as a chance to fix the culture and bring in better people. Bad bosses definitely let things rot, but sometimes the team lets one bad apple define everything when it doesnt have to.

My friend's cafe lost three staffers, exactly what @ryanj60 means.
