My laptop died 3 days after the warranty ended and the store basically laughed at me
I bought a $1,200 laptop from a big electronics chain about 14 months ago. Last Tuesday I opened it up to work on some spreadsheets and the screen just flickered once and went black. Nothing I did could get it back on. I brought it to their service desk expecting some kind of help since it was barely over a year old. The guy at the counter checked the serial number and said the warranty ended 3 days ago, then offered me a 10% discount on a new one. Really? You can't do anything for a $1,200 machine that failed 72 hours past the cutoff? I get that policies are policies but that just feels like bad faith to me. Has anyone else had a company refuse to fix something that died right after the warranty expired?

Wait, they seriously offered you 10% off a new one after you dropped $1,200 on a machine that died three days out? That's insulting.

Did you try turning it off and on again before you brought it in? Sorry, bad joke. But seriously, that 10% off offer is them basically saying "we know we screwed you, here's a coupon so you can let us do it again." I had a similar thing happen with a TV that died 2 weeks after the warranty and they offered me a "loyalty discount" that was basically the same price anyone walking in off the street would get.
