Rant: My whole order got messed up at the burger place downtown
I was at Big Al's Diner last Friday, ordered a double cheeseburger with no pickles and extra onions. Got the bag home, opened it, and it was a chicken sandwich with pickles everywhere... I called them up, the guy on the phone just said 'sorry' and told me to come back. When I got there, the manager gave me the right burger, a free milkshake, and a ten dollar gift card. Has anyone else had a fast food place actually make it right like that?

That "free milkshake and a ten dollar gift card" is way better than most places do. I got a cold, wrong pizza once and they just told me to keep it and gave me a coupon for my next order, which felt like a joke. Like, you want me to come back and pay you again after this?

Look at it from their side, @schmidt.eva. They already ate the cost of that wrong pizza. A coupon for next time is a real offer to make it right, not a joke. It's basic business to try and get another chance. Expecting a full refund plus free stuff for every mess up is how small places shut down. That ten dollar gift card sounds nice until you realize they're probably just hoping you spend fifty more.

Honestly, that "basic business" line misses the point... The customer already lost their time and gas driving back. A gift card just locks them into spending more money at the place that messed up. It's not being generous, it's a calculated move to recover future sales after their own mistake.
