Saw a grocery store's returns desk go from 15 minute waits to under 2 minutes in one month

The manager finally added a dedicated line for exchanges only and it cleared up the whole bottleneck. Has anyone else seen a small change like that fix a huge problem at a store near you?

Yeah I saw something similar at this hardware store near me where they just put a separate register for people who already knew exactly what they wanted versus people asking for help. It was wild how much faster things moved. But the funny thing was watching people ignore it like @bethj44 mentioned with the DMV. Same exact thing happened here. People would stand in the help line holding a single bolt for 20 minutes when the express line had nobody in it. They just wouldn't look at the sign or even the big arrows painted on the floor. I think some folks are just hardwired to follow the crowd even if it makes their life worse. The store finally had to put a worker at the front just pointing people.

An exchange only line actually cut the wait by 13 minutes?

Heard about this from my friend Sarah who works at the DMV. She said they tested it one day and the exchange only line moved way faster than the regular one. People just swapping out plates or fixing titles got through in like 8 minutes instead of the usual 20. She said the only problem was people kept trying to sneak into the wrong line even though there were signs everywhere.
