That 2 week return saga over a $40 desk lamp finally ended

Bought a $40 lamp from a big box store and the switch died after 3 days, so I called their line and got bounced between departments for 45 minutes before they said I had to go back to the store, where the clerk told me their system only showed a 14 day window even though I had the receipt. After 2 trips and a manager override, they swapped it on the spot, but has anyone else had a store's phone support and physical location just not talk to each other at all?

Ended up dealing with something similar at a home improvement store last year. Their online chat said one thing, the guy at the returns desk said another, and I just asked him to call the customer service number right there in front of me with the receipt in my hand. Took about ten minutes of him on hold, but he got the override done and I walked out with the new one. Next time, skip the phone line and go straight to the store, ask for the department manager, and just hold your ground while they sort it out between themselves. Worked way better than me bouncing around on hold for an hour. Have you tried just going back and asking for the same manager if anything else acts up?
