That cashier at Target flat out lied to me about a price match

I heard this guy at customer service arguing about a price match policy, and the clerk told him they only match local stores, which I know isn't true from their website. The whole thing made me realize how many employees just make up rules on the spot to avoid work. Has anyone else caught a store employee bending the rules like that?

Haven't we all had a lazy employee just make stuff up to get us out of their face though? I mean yeah, it's annoying when they lie about a price match policy (I've had Home Depot tell me something similar, then I showed them the app on my phone and they caved). But honestly, is it worth getting all fired up about? It's Target, not a life-or-death situation. The guy on the customer service desk probably just wanted to get through his shift without doing extra work, which is kind of understandable even if it's wrong.

Target's price match policy actually says they'll match Amazon and a bunch of other stores, but only if the item is sold and shipped by Amazon themselves, not a third party seller on there. I looked into it after a similar thing happened to me last year. The customer service guy was probably following the actual rule, not just being lazy. It's a dumb policy that catches people off guard, but it's not the employee's fault if corporate makes it confusing.
