The guy at the hardware store told me to use a rubber mallet on my stuck garbage disposal instead of taking it apart

I spent 20 minutes banging on the side of my sink with a rubber mallet and the disposal actually started spinning again, so I guess he was right, has anyone else had a weird fix like that actually work?

My neighbor swore by slamming the breaker box switch for his furnace when it wouldn't kick on, and I always thought he was just being lazy. One cold morning I tried it out of desperation and the thing fired right up, so yeah, I guess I'm a convert now.
