The time a cashier at Home Depot saved me $40 with a single question

I was at Home Depot last Saturday buying a new toilet flapper because the one in my bathroom kept running. I grabbed the first one I saw, a brand name for $12, and headed to the register. The cashier, this older guy named Frank, looked at it and asked if I checked my toilet model number first. I said no, I just figured they were all the same. He told me to go back and look, because the wrong one would leak and I'd be back in a week. I went back, checked the model, and found the right one for $8 instead. Saved me the hassle and the extra cash just because he took 10 seconds to ask a question. Has anyone else had a cashier save them from a dumb purchase like that?

Oh Frank gets that a lot for sure... I bet half his day is catching stuff like that. It's funny how we just grab the first thing without thinking, especially at places like Home Depot where everything looks similar. It reminds me of how we rush through little choices all the time without realizing how much they add up, you know? Diana, you're right about those little choices adding up. I've learned the hard way to triple-check part numbers before I leave the store, especially at hardware places where the packaging can be tricky. Now I snap a photo of the old part on my phone before I go, saves me a trip back every time.
