Pro tip: My friend's kid just got scammed out of his Fortnite account because of a simple mistake.
We were at a barbecue last month and his 12-year-old was really upset. He said he got a direct message on Discord offering free V-Bucks if he logged in through a link. He clicked it, typed his info, and his account was gone in minutes. The guy running the grill, who works in IT, just shook his head and said, 'Never, ever click a login link someone sends you. Always go to the real site yourself.' It was such a basic thing, but seeing it happen to a real kid made it stick. Has anyone else had to help someone recover from a phishing scam like that?

Yeah, the "free V-Bucks" trick is brutal. My buddy's little brother fell for a similar one on Instagram. It was a fake tournament sign-up page that looked just like the real Epic Games site. He lost all his skins and the account got banned for cheating because the scammer was using it. Took weeks of support tickets to get it back.

It's scary how common this is getting. @hugobarnes is right about those fake pages looking real. I see the same basic trick everywhere now, not just with games. Fake texts about a package or a bank alert. They just make people panic and click. It feels like we all need to be on guard all the time, even for stuff that seems small. The advice from the IT guy is the only safe bet, go to the site yourself every single time.
