Stuck between a password manager and a physical notebook for my login vault

I kept my passwords in a notebook for years, then switched to Bitwarden 3 months ago. Last week my phone died and I couldn't get into my vault, which makes me wonder if the old paper method was actually safer for access. Anyone else torn between these two approaches and how did it work out for you?

I keep a printed backup of my Bitwarden vault in my fire safe just for emergencies.

Does printing a backup like that mean you update it every time you change a password? Otherwise it feels like you'd have a mix of old and current logins pretty quick. Maybe that's fine if you don't rotate passwords often though.
