Switched from free antivirus to a paid one after getting hit with ransomware last March

I used to just run Windows Defender and called it good. Then my cousin clicked a sketchy email attachment and encrypted all our family photos. Cost me $300 to a recovery service to get them back. Now I'm using Bitdefender and it caught a fake invoice yesterday that looked super real. Anyone else made the jump after a close call like that?

Right there with you. I thought I was hot stuff running just Defender until I opened a fake UPS tracking PDF and watched my files go poof. Now I'm the guy who clicks through every security popup like a paranoid grandpa.
