Switched from free antivirus to paid and my computer actually runs faster now

I used Avast free for like 3 years because money was tight, but last month I finally bit the bullet and paid $40 for a full suite. My startup time went from 2 minutes to 30 seconds and the popups stopped completely. Anyone else notice free security tools are secretly the worst thing for your system?

The free antivirus slowdown is real, but it's not always the tools themselves that cause it. Avast has gotten really aggressive with ads and background tasks over the years, and that's what drags down performance. Most free programs survive by pushing you to upgrade or selling your data, and that eats resources. A paid suite cuts all that out and usually runs leaner because they don't need to annoy you into paying.

Oh man, you're so right. It's like every free app eventually turns into a nagging salesperson. I've noticed it with my phone too. Get a free weather app and two weeks later it's popping up ads every five minutes. They all start off nice and then slowly turn into a mess of popups and data collection. It's exhausting having to constantly watch your back with free stuff.
