TIL two-factor authentication saved my account from a weird login attempt from Brazil
Got a notification at 2am last Thursday. Someone tried logging into my email from Sao Paulo. I'm in Ohio. Never been to Brazil. The 2FA code went to my phone instead of them. Scary how close I was to losing everything. Do you guys use authenticator apps or SMS for your 2FA?

Sao Paulo at 2am? That's creepy. Glad the 2FA blocked them though.

Is it really creepy if it's just someone's bad luck getting caught in a timezone thing? I mean, maybe the guy who tried to log in was just a night owl or had a legit reason to be up that late in Sao Paulo. Not everyone follows a 9-to-5 schedule. Plus, the 2FA worked anyway, so what's the big deal? It's like you're assuming the worst about someone who made a simple mistake.

The real question nobody's asking is why anyone even knows it was 2AM in Sao Paulo. That kind of location and time data floating around feels way more invasive than a failed login attempt.
