Grilling debate: charcoal vs gas for a family cookout
I always thought gas grills were the way to go for convenience, but my brother-in-law in Nashville swears by his charcoal Weber kettle. He says the smoky flavor from lump charcoal beats gas every time, even with a 30 minute setup. But after a long day at work, I just want to flip the switch and be done in 10 minutes. Which side do you lean on for feeding the family?

Charcoal all the way, just starts the party while the burgers cook.

And that's the real beauty of charcoal, isn't it? There's no rush, no hurry. You get that nice slow build up and the smell starts drifting through the neighborhood. I think that first half hour or so is almost better than the eating part, honestly. It forces you to slow down and just be outside, maybe with a cold drink in your hand. Gas grills are fine for a Tuesday, but charcoal is for a real weekend cookout.
