Had a coworker tell me my dad jokes were too mean spirited

She said 'you're not telling a joke, you're just roasting your kid in public' so now I try to make sure the punchline is silly instead of at someone's expense. Anyone else get feedback that made you rethink how you joke around?

Yeah that's fair, roasting your own kid for laughs is a bad look.

the whole "roasting your kid for laughs" thing kinda misses what kids actually take away from it. I grew up with a dad who thought he was being funny like that and it just made me feel like I couldn't trust him with any of my real stuff. kids don't have the brain wiring yet to understand "oh they're just joking" when it's their parent throwing shade at them in front of other people.
