My 14 year old asked why I always say "I'm fine" when I'm not, and I didn't have a good answer
She caught me after a rough week at work and said if I keep hiding stuff from her she'll just stop asking, and she's got a point, so now I'm wondering how many of you actually tell your kids the truth when you're having a bad day.
Kids pick up on way more than we give them credit for, and a 14 year old saying she'll stop asking is probably just her way of saying she wants to know what's going on with you. That said, does every bad day really need to be shared? Some stuff at work is boring or adult and dumping it on a kid just makes them worry about things they can't fix. There's a middle ground between lying and telling them everything, like saying you had a hard day without going into all the details. Hiding a rough week is not the same as hiding something that matters to her. Seems like the real thing she's asking for is to feel close to you, not a full report on your job.
