My daughter laughed at 47 of my dad jokes in one sitting and I wrote down which ones worked
My 9 year old daughter and I started this thing where I test dad jokes on her while she eats her after school snack, usually Goldfish and apple slices, and I keep a little tally in the back of an old receipt. Last Thursday we did a marathon run and she genuinely laughed at 47 out of 60 jokes, which surprised me because I figured I was running half my material into the ground. The stuff that killed was mostly food jokes, like the one about the dad who only ate beans because he wanted to be a has bean, and anything with animals in it. The wordplay ones she just stared at me for, so I cut those from the rotation. What got me was after joke 48 she stopped me and said the real reason she liked it was the sitting part, not the jokes. So now we do 10 jokes max and then just talk about her day for a while, and honestly that talk part is where I hear the stuff I never get at dinner. Do your kids have a snack or a walk or some other tiny ritual where the real conversations sneak out, or is it just mine who clams up until the crackers come out?
