Vent: My dad told a joke at my kid’s birthday party that bombed hard last Saturday

So it’s my daughter’s 7th birthday party at the park near our house, about 20 kids and parents there. My dad, who’s usually pretty good with dad jokes, gets up and says “Why don’t scientists trust atoms?” Everyone’s quiet waiting for the punchline. He goes “Because they make up everything!” and just complete silence, not even a chuckle from the kids. I felt so bad for him, he looked crushed for a second. Has anyone else had a joke totally flop in front of a tough crowd like a bunch of kids?

Oh man, that reminds me of the time my uncle tried telling knock-knock jokes to my nephew's soccer team and they just stared at him like he was speaking a different language.
