Blew $70 on a fancy water filter pitcher that I hate

So last month I bought one of those expensive water filter pitchers with the digital display that tells you when to change the filter. It was $70 and I thought it would be great for my apartment in Austin. Turns out the filters cost like $15 each and need replacing every 40 gallons, which for me is about every 3 weeks. The water tastes fine, same as my old $20 pitcher honestly. Plus the digital screen broke after two weeks and the company wants me to send it back on my own dime. I'm back to my old pitcher and just wasted $70 on this thing. Has anyone else fallen for a fancy kitchen gadget that was totally not worth it? What did you switch back to?
