Hot take: my new $45 espresso grinder beats my old $300 one on taste, fine. But I got roasted for saying it out loud at a coffee meetup

I broke my fancy grinder's burr holder yesterday after 3 years, so I grabbed a cheap one at Target to get through the week. Honestly, my morning shots taste the same to me, and when I said that at a local cupping session in Austin, everyone looked at me like I insulted their dog. Anyone else think the price jump for grinders is mostly hype, or am I missing something with my old pallet?

Admit my taste buds are basically a blunt instrument, so I can't tell a $45 grinder from a $300 one unless it's on fire. But at the meetup, I just said the cheap one made a perfectly fine cup, and you'd think I'd spat in the pour-over station. Some folks treat gear like a personality, so I'll keep my Target grinder and my unrefined palate, thanks.
