My $12 bread proofing basket changed everything in 3 bakes
I used to just throw dough in a bowl for rising and got flat, sad loaves every time, but switching to a cheap banneton basket gave me that tall bakery shape after just three tries. Has anyone else noticed a huge difference from something as simple as the vessel you use for proofing?

Can't believe twelve bucks totally fixed your bread shape, that's wild.

Oh come on, a basket is a basket. I tried the whole banneton thing and my loaves came out the same as when I used a regular bowl lined with a kitchen towel. The shape difference is mostly about how you handle the dough and score it, not the container it sits in overnight. @young.spencer is right to be skeptical here. You probably just got better at shaping or your starter finally kicked into gear around the same time. Twelve bucks isn't much, but don't give the basket credit for what your own hands learned to do.
