My barber in Austin called out my haircut habit, now I'm stuck
Went in for my usual $25 buzz last Tuesday and my barber, Marcus, said I've been asking for the same thing for 4 years and asked if I ever try something new. He showed me a photo of a style that would actually fit my face shape, and said I hide behind the buzz cut because it's easy. It hit different because he's right, I pick the same sandwich, same coffee, same everything out of habit. But changing my hair feels like admitting I've been lazy about a bigger pattern, so should I try his suggestion or keep the routine?

Started picturing my barber back in Ohio who tried to talk me into a high-and-tight when I'd been getting the same medium fade for years. I said no, then spent the next three months watching every guy on my street get that cut and secretly thinking about it every time I passed a mirror. Finally caved one Saturday, hated it for a week, then realized nobody actually cared and my own brain was the only one keeping score. Point is, the sandwich and coffee habits are cheaper to test than the haircut, so maybe start there and see if your brain even notices the difference.

Read somewhere that our brains actually get a little dopamine hit from the familiar, so it makes sense you stick with the same stuff. Maybe just try the haircut once, worst case it grows back in a few weeks and you've got a story.
