Put $20 into my old truck instead of a new one and it actually worked out
Blew a brake line on my 2002 Ford Ranger last Tuesday. Was about to give up and start looking at new trucks. My buddy said just fix it, cost me $18 for the part and 2 hours in his driveway. Brakes feel better now and I saved like $30,000. Anyone else kept an old vehicle running way longer than you thought?

Ngl I kept my 98 F-150 on the road for way too long just by fixing small stuff like this myself. The trick is knowing which parts to cheap out on and which ones to buy nice. Like brakes and tires I never go bottom dollar but for stuff like a brake line or a radiator you can grab the cheap one and be fine. Also YouTube is your best friend for these trucks, they're dead simple to work on. Just don't let a little rust or a bad starter talk you into a car payment you didn't plan for.

Man that last line really hit me. "Don't let a little rust or a bad starter talk you into a car payment you didn't plan for." That's the truth right there. I did the same thing with my old Chevy Silverado, kept patching it up for years because I knew every squeak and rattle it made. YouTube really is a lifesaver for these older trucks, there's a video for literally anything that can go wrong. Its not always pretty but it beats having that monthly payment hanging over your head.
