Serious question, should I just toss my old rice cooker after it caught fire last night?
My 3 cup Zojirushi from 2019 started smoking and sparked on the counter during dinner and I panicked and unplugged it but now I'm not sure if I should try to clean it or just buy a new one has anyone else had a rice cooker fail like that?

Jump right in and toss that thing before it starts a real fire. Same thing happened to my Aroma from 2020 last month - it was making rice fine then all of a sudden smoke started pouring out the bottom vent. I tried cleaning it the next day and the heating element had visible scorch marks and a weird burned plastic smell that wouldn't go away. Not worth the risk for a $60 cooker when your kitchen could go up in flames. Zojirushi makes good stuff but once electricity starts arcing inside the casing it's done for.

$60 for a rice cooker vs a $2000 kitchen remodel, do the math lol. Preach @derek_brown28, once that magic smoke escapes an appliance it's just a glorified space heater.
