That $24 magnetic phone mount killed my phone's camera in two weeks

I figured a cheap mount from Amazon would be fine, but the magnet messed up the OIS in my Pixel 6 camera and now every photo is shaky. Has anyone else wrecked a phone with a magnetic mount before I go buy a new one?

Did you have it on the back of the phone or on the case? I've read a lot about how the new magsafe magnets in iPhones are way stronger than the old random magnet mounts, and Pixel phones especially have those tiny OIS sensors that can get messed up. Maybe it's just me but I'd be really careful with any mount that's supposed to hold a phone on a vent or dashboard because the vibration from driving can make it worse too. I know someone who had their Galaxy S23's camera do the same thing after a month of using one of those clip-on ring holders with a magnet inside the case. The shaking photos sound exactly like what happens when the camera lens gets knocked out of alignment and can't focus right anymore.

Grab a magnetic vent mount and hold it up to the back of your phone without actually sticking it on, if the magnets feel strong when they're a few millimeters away then that's too much pull for the OIS. Honestly I fried a Pixel 7 camera the same way, the magnetic field messes with the tiny coil that moves the lens to stabilize your shots. Stick with a good grip case or a clip-on mount that doesn't rely on magnets if you want to save your camera.
