That $9 garlic press from the discount store actually works better than my $40 one
Bought a cheap garlic press at Ocean State Job Lot last Tuesday just to have a spare. Used it that night to crush 4 cloves for pasta sauce and it got everything out, no clogging. My expensive one from Sur La Table always leaves half the garlic stuck in the holes. Now I'm wondering if I overpaid for years or if this thing will just break in a month. Anyone else had a bargain tool outshine the fancy version?

My buddy Marcus bought a $3 bamboo cutting board from Aldi for his camper, just to chop onions on when he goes fishing. He used it every weekend for a year and it never warped or cracked even after leaving it out in the rain once. Meanwhile his $60 end-grain board from Williams Sonoma started splitting down the middle after six months of normal kitchen use. He literally glued the fancy one back together and it broke again the next time he made stir fry. Now he uses the Aldi board for everything and the pricey one just sits on his counter holding fruit. He still won't throw the expensive one away though, says it feels wrong somehow.
