Update: My whole approach to grocery shopping changed after one trip to the Costco in Everett.
I went in for just milk and eggs, but the checkout line was 45 minutes long. I saw a guy with a single rotisserie chicken stuck behind three carts piled high. He looked so done. Now I never go on a weekend and I make a strict list. Has anyone else had a store trip that made you change your routine for good?

That image of the guy with the chicken is burned into my brain just from you describing it. I had a similar breaking point at my local store on a Sunday afternoon, trying to buy a single bag of coffee. I was trapped in an aisle blocked by two full carts while the owners debated cereal. I now do all my shopping on Tuesday nights after eight. The quiet is worth planning my whole week around it.

Hearing "Tuesday nights after eight" is almost a spiritual confession.

Read an article calling that the "single item purgatory" line, which feels way too accurate.
