The 5am dump run that made me rethink my trash contract

Last Tuesday I rode along with my hauler on their morning route around the 7 Mile corridor, mostly because I wanted to see where my commercial bins actually end up. Turns out they were taking everything to a transfer station in Pontiac instead of the city dump I was paying a premium for. Has anyone else ever actually followed their waste service truck to verify the final destination, or am I just paranoid about my disposal costs?
